SERVICES FOR REFUGEES / ASYLUM SEEKERS


Ever since 1995 Mission Armenia in cooperation with UNHCR in the status of an implementing partner, has been realizing different projects for refugees / asylum seekers that are mainly ethnic Armenians.

Goal

Through the provision of community-based social, healthcare, training/educational and community development services contribute to the solution of vital problems of refugees/asylum seekers as well as promote their well-being and integration into the local society.

Target Geography

4 marzes of the Republic of Armenia – 135 temporary dwellings:
• Yerevan
• Kotayk
• Ararat
• Armavir

Beneficiaries

• 5,000 refugees who fled Azerbaijan in late 1980s and early 1990s
• 1,000 temporary asylum-seekers and temporary asylum holders, mostly from Iraq

Refugee Major Problems

• Unemployment
• Lack of access to social-healthcare services
• Lack of awareness on rights and privileges
• Problems regarding citizenship acquisition procedures
• Linguistic barriers
• Lack of permanent shelter

Services

• Psycho-Social services
• Care services
• Primary health services
• Vocational training and re-qualification
• Advocacy and right protection
